Around & About
There was a minibus trip to WSM sea to drop residents off to go for a walk. I was really disappointed that only two turned up, Roger (the hat) and me. It was a lovely day and we had a lovely time! It was the first time I had been to Prince Consort Gardens which has two ponds and is in high position overlooking (what remains of) Birnbeck Pier. The pier itself dates from 1867. It is the only pier in the UK which links the mainland to an island. The RNLI built a slipway in 1902. The Pier closed in 1994 though the RNLI continued to use it until 2007. It has recently been compulsorily purchased and may be restored and reopened. Certainly, the RNLI want to reinstate the slip and be able to base themselves there once again. There is a sad story of two idiots who stole the clock. Basics here, but you can find more details of this strange escapade on the www.
