A Quiet February
It has been a quiet month. This is for several reasons ... a) it is a short month, b) I have been ill with a particularly nasty cold for the last week of it and, c) I have had a major (by my standards) gardening project. I did go to London but, primarily, to sort out some stuff in the flat and get Marta to come and clean it - so impressed am I that I will try to keep it so!
The half-round edging along my bed by The Strawberry Line has been slowly deteriorating. Shelagh has been on at me to 'do something', so now I have started! The idiot who erected this - don't know who or how old it is, but it was there in 2015 - concreted it into the ground. It had largely rotted at the bottom as one would predict. I had ordered some replacement half-round with some difficulty as it appeared to be of an obscure length. When I came to start the job (by hand, with cold chisels), I immediately realised it was far more difficult than anticipated. I put out a call for a pseudo-kango and Pual (Owen) of the Strawberry Line volunteers lent me a Titan rotary hammer. With this, and a week's on and off digging, I cleared it all. It was set deeper than I expected so, once I have got over my cold and can get back to the job, I may find the replacement is a bit shorter!
