SS Great Britain
Margaret & I came to visit the ship a very short time after she arrived home. I am not even sure either of us had been to Bristol before. We had an amazing walk around this hulk. She has now been transformed into a superb exhibit and, since living in North Somerset, both of us have been. Now, another trip on a wet day, and without Margaret.

She is 'floating' in a sea of water on glass, under which the hull, keel, propeller and balanced rudder are exposed. This area is kept at +ve pressure and the air is dried so there is little moisture - the warm air comes from those silver tubes - which prevents further corrosion.
She went through many configurations during her life as a ship with different engines and propellors. She had a period just under sail power. Similarly she carried passengers and goods and ended up as storage. It is an absolutely fascinating story and, if you haven't been you should!
